Appalachian Spring Oxymel
Oxymels, an ancient herbal preparation, have been since Hippocrates’ time for a variety of respiratory, digestive and immune system issues including coughs, mucus, difficulty breathing and stomach aches. Made from vinegar and honey, oxymels are a simple kitchen herbal preparation to make.
So many wild herbs are growing in Appalachia. Beautiful, full of nourishment and healing benefits, these herbs are great in vinegar. Vinegar extracts the tonic properties, as well as the vitamin and minerals of these wild green herbs making them great to incorporate into your daily foods. Honey is also a highly nourishing and medicinal way to preserve herbs. When you combine vinegar and honey you embody an ancient medicine used as far back as Hippocrates day. Fantastic for stomach complaints, respiratory ailments and a great way to take bitter herbs, oxymels give us an ultimate way to take in herbal medicine!
